Description

Southwest Minnesota State University prepares students to meet the complex challenges of this century as engaged citizens in their local and global communities. Our comprehensive degree programs, taught in the liberal arts tradition, are dedicated to connecting students’ academic and practical professional development experiences in southwestern Minnesota to the wider world. The project goals are to improve the health and academic success of low-income and underrepresented students through partnerships and students serving each other, increasing access to nutrition and other non-academic supports on campus and to improve the health of low-income residents through partnerships between SMSU and community organizations. Key partners will be Healthy56258, SMSU Center for Civic and Community Engagement, SMSU Access, Opportunity & Success, Marshall Area YMCA, City of Marshall, SHIP, and Marshall Public Schools. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Additional Benefits

Childcare assistance if eligible, Education award upon successful completion of service, Non-competitive eligibility (federal jobs), Relocation allowance (if applicable), Training End of Service Benefit: $5,920 Education Award (can be used within seven years for future tuition or to repay student loans) OR $1,800 cash stipend. Only awarded upon successful completion of service. Relocation Allowance: if moving more than 50 miles to a new location, $550 settling in allowance can be requested. Healthcare Support: $7,350 healthcare allowance to supplement the VISTA's qualifying comprehensive health insurance plan. Student Loan Forbearance: is available to those you elect the Education Award and can be applied to any qualifying federal student loans. Also, will be provided with a dorm room for housing and on-campus parking.
