Description
The Ruth Ellis Center (REC) is a youth social services agency formed to provide a safety net and positive youth development services for runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth. REC’s core purpose is to build positive futures with young people experiencing homelessness and other interpersonal and systemic barriers to housing, health, and wellness by operating core services with mission-specific emphasis on LGBTQ young people experiencing homelessness, out of home care, and other barriers to self-sufficiency. The VISTA will provide capacity-building services to establish a Host Homes program in Detroit, which is a program that will efficiently utilize community capital to provide youth with short-term housing while giving them an opportunity to work toward long-term housing options. The VISTA will lay the foundation for REC to continue to engage and serve the community in a sustainable way. Questions about this project can be directed to the Program Director at kbeavers@mihomeless.org and Project Site Supervisor at luke.hassevoort@ruthelliscenter.org
