Millinocket is looking for a Fellow to work collaboratively with our Sustainability Committee to set the goals and desired use of airport property as we look to expand our current economic opportunities and develop, build, and strengthen supportive relationships for air traffic in our region. As Millinocket looks to the future, transportation and aviation is critical to developing our sustainability and economic success. Bolstered air access grants further access to our regions recreation opportunities, creating business and employment opportunities with the increased visitors, creates amenities that may entice further investment of the region and necessary access to increased life saving measures through expanding access to life flights.

Service Activities

A fellow can expect to:
Create a recommendation to the Town Council once the Sustainability Committee’s development plan has been completed.
Develop, build, and strengthen supportive relationships for air traffic.
Publicize and market the plan after it is accepted by the Council. This will involve working with the Community Initiatives Director, Town’s website manager DesignLab, Chamber of Commerce, EMDC, Our Katahdin businesses and others within the community and region to spread the word with the goal of gaining interest in developing the site.
Assist in receiving inquiries on the site once the plan has been accepted and completed.
Coordinating with the Airport Manager and Town Manager on accepting prospective tenants on the site.
Promote the Katahdin Region and the Millinocket Airport as a destination within the aviation world.
Identify potential outlets for news articles, advertising and other strategic positioning, including but not limited to working the Maine Office of Tourism, Maine State Chamber of Commerce and others.
Build, develop and strengthen relationships with relevant local, regional, state and federal individuals and organizations in an effort to position Millinocket as a regional airport suited for commercial air traffic.
Seek and work with relevant grants/organizations to bring electric infrastructure to the Millinocket Airport to support the growing and emerging market for carbon-free travel. This topic will be heavily supported by the Sustainability Committee and a key factor in the direction of the airport.

Community Need Addressed

The Town of Millinocket and Katahdin Region as a whole will benefit from attaining a Fellow by strengthening our transportation options and airport operations. The Fellow will work closely with the Airport Manager and Sustainability Committee to create a comprehensive land development plan while assisting in the Town’s efforts to increase air traffic, which involves a great deal of relationship building and policy advocacy across a diverse field.

Position Outcomes

he Fellow’s work will provide a completed land development plan, develop strategies on growing air traffic and build stronger and supportive relationships in the aviation/transportation field. If financial/in-kind resources will result from the Fellow’s work, they will be applied directly to the goals and objectives stated herein.
