Team Leaders begin their 1200 hour AmeriCorps member term of service by completing a 15 week training program. Successful completion of training will qualify them to lead a MCC field team. Members will learn hard and soft skills associated with creating and rehabilitating sustainable trails, as well as mentoring field team members.

Service Activities

Members of Team Leader Training will participate in leadership skills development, covering essential hard and soft skills, and will complete conservation projects as part of a team of fellow Team Leader-trainees.
Once the field season starts, a successful member of the training program, will assume the key responsibilities of a MCC Field Team Leader. This role provides direct leadership, mentorship, and teaching for an MCC field team from June to October. You can expect to work on physically challenging conservation projects in any kind of weather, gaining hands on experience in the groundwork of stewardship.
The Team Leader position requires mentorship, patience, technical aptitude, focus on efficiency, and a high level of comfort in the outdoors. Team Leaders are ultimately responsible for successes of the team.
MCC Team Leaders perform many roles, and are the key to our program’s success. The position is multi-faceted and demanding, but provides opportunity for enormous rewards.

Team Leaders are an integral part of the Maine Conservation Corps (MCC) mission to accomplish conservation projects that inspire people and enhance communities. As a Team Leader, you will expand outdoor recreational opportunities to Maine’s woods, waters, and mountains, while protecting these precious natural resources.
