Through campus/community partnerships focused on energy efficiency education and light weatherization services, MPES AmeriCorps Members will increase energy efficiency and cost savings for economically disadvantaged populations, community organizations, and non-profit higher educational institutions. In addition to responding to the need for increased energy efficiency, MPES AmeriCorps Members will address the need for more job opportunities and vocational training, particularly for unemployed and economically disadvantaged individuals in growth fields like green jobs. Splitting their time between the campus and the community partner, each MPES AmeriCorps member will develop and implement energy efficiency action plans with clear outcomes and will lead MPES program events and volunteer recruitment efforts.
Additional professional development benefits include: five Skill Development and Green Jobs Trainings, personalized career counseling and support in developing a personal Career Action Plan, and an enhanced green/environmental professional network.
