Description

Lutheran Volunteer Corps is a full-time service and leadership program operating in cities across the U.S. Our mission: to unite people to work for peace with justice. We do this by placing approximately 50 Volunteers in full-time positions at social justice organizations. Year Volunteers live together in intentional community, practicing simple and sustainable living, while exploring spirituality. LVC offers housing for yearlong service, modest stipend, health insurance, and paid vacation time.

This position: The volunteer coordinator will oversee a vibrant volunteer program that has been in operation since opening in 1998. The coordinator will recruit, educate, support, oversee, care for, schedule and appreciate the volunteers. Volunteers typically assist with resident care, support residents through friendly visits, offer comfort or security to fearful residents and /or family and friends, extend hospitality to all, answer phones and assist with other office tasks, bake cookies, plan parties, etc. The volunteer coordinator will maintain records (education, background check, inservice components, hours of service, database, etc.) and will continue to create monthly volunteer newsletters. The volunteer coordinator will also facilitate activities for residents and families in conjunction with current volunteers and affiliated community organizations such as Best Friends Pet Therapy, Master Gardeners, Omaha Quilters' Guild, Merry Makers, Healing Touch Practitioners, Omaha Chamber Musicians Guild, etc.
