Description
Lutheran Volunteer Corps is a full-time service and leadership program operating in cities across the U.S. Our mission: to unite people to work for peace with justice. We do this by placing approximately 50 Volunteers in full-time positions at social justice organizations. Year Volunteers live together in intentional community, practicing simple and sustainable living, while exploring spirituality. LVC offers housing for yearlong service, modest stipend, health insurance, and paid vacation time.
The Outreach Coordinator (OC) works primarily with men and women wrestling with the challenges of poverty and homelessness. They work alongside parish staff while providing direct outreach, encounter, and service to people needing assistance (eviction prevention, sober-house fees, utilities payments), and alongside parish volunteers in a variety of service ministries. Each week, the parish provides: a Food Pantry, a dinner for the hungry, a service providing household set-ups for people recently housed, tutoring at a local elementary school, a men's free clothing ministry, and more. The OC holds varying degrees of responsibility for the function of these ministries, and is expected to develop & foster relationships in all areas. Excellent communication with staff & parish volunteers and good record-keeping skills will be necessary. Ample support is provided and available; the ability to work independently and creatively is also highly valued. The job is physically very active. Work-sites (across the parish campus; some off-site work) and responsibilities are quite varied
