I want to support and participate in efforts to promote food justice and more broadly environmental justice, because environmental degradation shouldn't disproportionately affect people of color or other under-represented populations. Moreover, I hope this year will equip me with the professional skills to continue working successfully in the environmental field.
I am an environmental nut! From sustainable living practices to the dark and twisty (political) history of humans' relationships to the world we share, I LOVE it all. This is why I am thrilled to be serving at Faith in Place—a nonprofit that connects faith communities to environmental justice opportunities—as its Winter Farmers Market Coordinator. My program promotes food justice by providing customers access to healthy, sustainable food options and supporting vendors' incomes through the slower winter months. I am also a sucker for a good historical drama. Political intrigue, romance, war, period costumes...my heart sings! My voice sings, too, usually in a choir! My favorite experience was during college when I sang with our Gospel Choir to lift our voices against racism and injustice.
