Description
The Program for Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) at Iowa State University is seeking an AmeriCorps 4-H member to lead programming and strategic initiatives for future students in grades K-12. The position involves directly engaging with youth and stakeholders through planning, executing, and evaluating WiSE events such as summer experiences, youth outreach, and STEM conferences. This member will also help identify strategic opportunities to engage students from historically excluded groups. The member in this position will gain experience working with youth, undergraduate college students, university departments and units, and corporate partners. This person will also gain skills in event and program planning and evaluation, recruitment of youth and volunteers, networking, and promoting strategic initiatives.
Specific position activities include:
- Plan, execute, and evaluate the RISE with WiSE summer program for rising 11th and 12th-grade youth,
- Partner with formal and informal youth educators and families to bring Go Further and RISE with WiSE and Student Role Model program K-12 youth, specifically historically excluded populations in STEM,
- Partner with Iowa State researchers to develop a new SRM curriculum and review/revise activities to ensure they are inclusive and representative of historically excluded populations,
- Work with educators, presenters, and the Memorial Union to coordinate and communicate the logistics of the Go Plan Go FurtherGirls STEM conferences, for 8th to 10th-grade students.
The member may be asked to participate in additional service activities that are not included in the member position description but are in alignment with the approved grant activities.
