COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps members serving 675 hours over 36 weeks will be partnered with the following organizations across Iowa:
Ames: Mid-Iowa Community Action- Food Security
Serve in the MICA-Ames food pantry to accept donations and distribute food packages, recruit and train volunteers, and improve data collection.
Cedar Rapids: Catherine McAuley Center- Food Security
Serve with CMC in the food pantry to conduct delivery intakes, client intakes, place food orders, manage volunteer schedules and training, and document the services provided.
Cedar Rapids/Linn County: ISU Extension Master Gardeners- Food Security
Harvest and deliver garden produce to food pantries. Weed and water gardens and prepare the beds for winter. Plant and grow seeds in the greenhouse for spring. Support Master Gardener class preparations.
Cedar Rapids: Olivet Neighborhood Mission- Food Security & Economic Resources
Unload and sort food and clothing donations for the food pantry and clothing closet. Identify essential items that need to be ordered. Assist clients using the services. Support community gardens in fall and spring.
Council Bluffs: New Visions Homeless Services- Food Security
Prepare and serve evening meals in the emergency shelter and community meal site. Organize food donations for distribution or use in meals. Evening and weekend hours: 5-9pm Saturday - Wednesday
Des Moines: IMPACT Community Action Partnership- Economic Support Programming
Serve residents of 5 central Iowa counties through processing applications and connecting resources through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
Des Moines: Willkie House - Education Support
Support students with Willkie House to combat learning loss and increase education outcomes. Connect with youth as a role model and positive influence in life.
Des Moines: WesleyLife Meals on Wheels - Food Security
Serve with WesleyLife to implement a program to support Meals on Wheels clients with accessing food for companion animals. Assist with Meals on Wheels operations, including delivering hot meals to clients.
Iowa City: CommUnity Crisis Services & Food Pantry- Food Security and Economic Support Programming
Receive food donations and distribute food through the self-choice pantry. Lead orientation for volunteers and participate in organizing the mobile food pantry logistics. OR
Support economic relief programs including the Iowa City Security Deposit program and Housing and Utility Assistance for clients. Receive client inquiries, asses needs and connect clients to appropriate resources.
