Volunteer Iowa
No listings recruiting at this time

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Dubuque is searching for an individual to strengthen our capacity and presence within the Dubuque community and tristate area. As a VISTA in this role, you will support NAMI Dubuque and provide support by helping with the daily/monthly needs of a leading nonprofit in eastern Iowa. We are looking for an individual who enjoys/has skillsets in social media, marketing, event/fundraising support, website maintenance, newsletter building, and general office software.

Service Activities

As a VISTA, you will be an essential part of our growing nonprofit. This role heavily relies on marketing, brand awareness as well as building our capacity internally. Data collection for membership, volunteer/facilitator retention and support, as well as identifying areas of need and helping to connect our resources to needed populations. This role will also work in partnership with our Program Support VISTA to provide ease of communication and operational capacity building for this role.

Community Need Addressed

Dubuque County is part of the tri-state area which borders both Illinois and Wisconsin. Dubuque County expands from our city center to rural counties within a 30-mile radius of the east central region of Iowa, making a large part of our consumers and participants living and working in underserved populations of appropriate and outcome positive mental health care. Areas of deficit are smaller communities within a 30 miles radius that sit between major cities and are often met by barriers to mental health care due to transportation, income, provider availability and accessibility. At times the cost and stigma of heath care is a barrier to rural and small-town communities who desperately need preventive and support services for mental health care.

Position Outcomes

The effects of the pandemic have exasperated the need for personal, empathetic and understanding support and that is where our nonprofit, NAMI Dubuque will meet these needs. NAMI Dubuque is in a working position to expand our services with the help of an anticipated VISTA member to help bridge the gap between services and share resources and support to those in the Dubuque Community.
