The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, located in Dubuque, Iowa, serves a seven county are in northeast Iowa. The VISTA will increase public awareness and understanding of community foundations and their impact, work with community foundation volunteers to tell the story of grants, endowments, the Iowa Transfer of Wealth study, and growing endowment funds for community causes. The VISTA will promote the creation of endowment funds (principal is held in perpetuity and is invested to provide regular, predictable income for a specified charitable purpose). The VISTA will provide tools, resources and support to help local communities capture charitable endowment dollars that will forever support nonprofit organizations considering the projected transfer of wealth in Iowa. The VISTA will also strengthen donor and volunteer relationships to build lasting relationships and support long-term change through endowment building, estate planning, and other donor relations efforts. The VISTA will serve as a part of Volunteer Iowa's Rural Development and Opioid AmeriCorps VISTA project. Volunteer Iowa is a state agency whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. VISTA members with our program have the benefit of a statewide support network of staff, Commissioners, National Service Programs, fellow AmeriCorps members and a VISTA Leader. Members receive ongoing training, support, networking and professional development opportunities.
