Description

Iowa Reading Corps AmeriCorps members spend their year viewing their community through the lens of service. They are trained as Elementary Literacy Tutors and are placed in school districts throughout Iowa. Members are assigned to one site for the duration of the program year and serve at least 40 hours per week (full-time members) or 30 hours per week (half-time members).
Iowa Reading Corps members work one-on-one with students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade who need help learning to read. During the summer months, members find opportunities to be involved in literacy-based programs in their communities that focus on literacy development and academic achievement.
Members are paid a living allowance twice monthly and upon successful completion of service, will receive an education
award of $6,095 (full-time), $3047.50 (half-time).
