Summer Reading AmeriCorps Program

Description

Position Purpose:
The AmeriCorps member will focus on expanding and improving the development and delivery of all aspects of the Cedar Rapids Public Library’s summer reading program – the Summer Dare. The Summer Dare is an intergenerational summer reading program with a strong focus on readers age 0-18 and preventing the summer learning slide. The AmeriCorps member will expand the library’s capacity to register participants in the program both on- and off-site, bring the Summer Dare to youth in poverty at child care facilities who experience barriers to library access, provide experiential library tours for youth in intensive summer school programs, and support and train volunteers assisting with these efforts.

AmeriCorps Tasks and Activities:
•Serve as a site coordinator and liaison for Summer Dare Everywhere site(s) – work with partner organization staff, library staff, and library volunteers to deliver the weekly program and track data related to the program
•Provide training and logistical support to volunteers recruited for the Summer Dare and Summer Dare Everywhere programs
•Register participants in the library’s Summer Dare reading program and update their progress in the program
•Creation of new ways of coordinating the logistics of materials and crafts for the library’s Summer Dare and Summer Dare Everywhere programs
•Delivery and development of weekly library experiential tours with Summer Dare Everywhere partnership with Kids on Course University
•Create social media posts for the Summer Dare program, events and activities related to Summer Dare
