Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
Jane Boyd Community House runs a 10 week summer day camp for youth grades K-6th grade in high risk communities. The Community House is a licensed childcare facility that also offers academic enrichments, specifically reading and math supports, that prevent summer learning loss. As a summer reading corp tutor, the member would be responsible for coordinating and implementing our summer literacy program for each grade level, partnering with public library staff members to insure new books are available to youth weekly, facilitating weekly reading groups in each grade level, tracking weekly minutes read per child, and reporting end of summer data to program staff and partners. This position is specific to developing summer literacy supports during camp.
AMERICORPS TASKS & ACTIVITIES:

Partner with summer day camp counselors to infuse literacy into their classrooms at each grade level, enroll all Jane Boyd youth into the Summer Dare Everywhere reading challenge, track their weekly reading minutes in the electronic data base, and work with program manager and school district staff for data collection and reporting.
