AmeriCorps VISTA

Description

• Support IACC VISTA Community Corps members and full-time Iowa College AmeriCorps Program members who are serving across the state
o Conduct regular contact via monthly 1:1s, weekly emails, and other as needed
o Coordinate with IACC staff members to answer questions raised by service members about their service
o Develop and implement site visits to review performance measures and check-in with the VISTA member and site supervisors on how the project is going
o Research other means of supporting VISTA members (e.g. benchmarking with other Campus Compact AmeriCorps programs, connecting with other VISTA Leaders in Iowa or on the VISTA Campus, etc.)
• Manage program evaluation and VISTA member reporting
o Individualize each member’s report based on their VAD/position description
o Train VISTA members on how to use the reporting system (Formstack)
 Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting regarding reporting
 Ensure members are submitting reports on time
o Provide feedback to service members on their reports (both positive and constructive; check-in on performance measure and challenges)
o Collaborate with IACC staff to compile VISTA member reports for Project Progress Reports (quarterly)
o Compile report narratives and stories to share on social media
• Develop professional development plan for VISTA members and full-time ICAP members
o Coordinate with IACC staff to implement on-site orientation for VISTA members (within the first 10 days of a member’s term of service)
o Identify areas for professional and personal development, as well as technical assistance or other topics based on member needs
 Organize and facilitate monthly webinars in collaboration with IACC and other Campus Compact staff
 Organize and facilitate in-service trainings in collaboration with IACC staff
o Promote attendance and participation in the Iowa Civic Action Academy to AmeriCorps VISTA members, an annual conference that promotes active citizenship
 Communicate with national service members, site supervisors, and other key partners about the opportunity (note: all ICAP members are required to attend)
 Review proposals with IACC staff to develop an intentional conference program
 Plan and present a session related to national service (e.g. using education award, life after AmeriCorps)
 Represent the IACC VISTA Community Corps at the event (e.g. answer questions about VISTA)
 Gather feedback from national service members that attended and make suggestions for an improved program/experience
• Oversee VISTA recruitment process
o Review VISTA host site (i.e. sub-site) application process and host site applications with IACC staff
o Review VISTA member applications with IACC staff
o Communicate regularly with site supervisors about applicants and recruitment needs
o Identify potential AmeriCorps VISTA applicants within existing IACC programs
 Communicate regularly with participants to identify potential applicants and provide assistance with developing their projects
 Invite program participants to national service in-person and digital professional development opportunities
 Promote National Service to program participants at in-person program events with IACC staff (i.e. orientation, end-of-year Principal visit)
 Evaluate program results based on participant feedback and make suggestions for future improvements to IACC staff
• Ensure all site supervisors and VISTA members complete paperwork by the appropriate deadline

Additional Benefits

1) A living stipend paid out bi-monthly from the Corporation for National and Community Service totalling $14,076 over 12 calendar months. 2) Health care benefit through the Corporation for National and Community Service 3) Professional development and networking opportunities 4) Upon successful completion of the full term of service, the Member will receive an education award of $5,920 or $3,000 post-service stipend, from the National Service Trust. 5) If the Member has received forbearance on a qualified student loan during the term of service, and the Member successfully completes the term of service, the National Service Trust will repay a portion of the interest that accrued on the loan during the term of service according to hours served. 6) Child-care benefits are contingent on having a child under 13, meeting an income threshold, needing child-care assistance to complete the AmeriCorps term of service, and having a financial need to pay necessary child-care expenses.
