In 2001, Habitat for Humanity of Iowa was established and its first board of directors elected. The State Support Organization (SSO) model aims to have a significant impact, strengthening and supporting the work of local Iowa Habitat affiliates through four core areas:

    • Resource Development
    • Advocacy
    • Training and Technical Assistance
    • Disaster Preparedness and Response
  • Our Impact
Habitat Iowa focuses on providing capacity building and funding to local HFH offices in Iowa. Through our AmeriCorps program, we leverage up to 100,000 hours of volunteer service per year! Join us to help build homes, communities and hope in Iowa.

Habitat offers a disaster team that travels to any area of Iowa assisting homeowners who are affected by flooding, tornado damage, high winds and more. If called upon our team is often deployed to other parts of the US to assist with Natural Disasters.

Habitat for Humanity of Iowa AmeriCorps Program

Habitat for Humanity of Iowa is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. Habitat makes homeownership a reality for low income families (incomes are 30% to 60% of median income) living in substandard housing by selling at 0% interest, community sponsored and volunteer built/rehabilitated homes to families unable to secure a traditional mortgage from a financial institution. Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. AmeriCorps members in our program lead new home construction and neighborhood revitalization projects to increase organizational capacity at HFH locations across Iowa, primarily by engaging more community volunteers. Members assist affiliates through recruitment, management and retention of volunteers as well as increasing the affiliate's organizational capacity to serve more families by recruiting and managing eligible families and developing organizational systems and procedures.
