Description

Make a difference in the lives of disaster-affected families in Sebring, FL! Following Hurricane Irma in September 2017, the goal was set to serve 40 families completely displaced by the storm through new home construction and 250 families through critical home repairs in 4 years. Your service will allow Highlands County Habitat to meet this goal in the heartland of FL! In the center of the state, Highlands County offers a short drive to beaches on either coast, as well as Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Since 1990, Highlands County Habitat for Humanity has served over 200 families through new home construction, home rehabilitations, and major and minor home repairs. Join the disaster recovery efforts in the second hardest hit county in the state while growing your skills for leadership and embracing the mission of Habitat for Humanity. You’ll be welcomed by a community with a heart for service!

The AmeriCorps member serving as the Construction Crew Leader will join a knowledgable and skilled construction staff to increase the number of families served in Highlands County following Hurricane Irma. With the assistance of an AmeriCorps member in this role, we will be able to build 8 new homes and serve 40 families through critical home repair during the service term. With a goal of serving 40 disaster-affected families over the next 4 years through homeownership, the AmeriCorps member in this role will make a significant impact in the lives of families and our community. While construction leadership is the primary role of this position, an additional goal of the member in this position will be to recruit and train 2 local, skilled volunteers to become volunteer site leaders. With the service of the member in this position, the affiliate will be able to continue increasing capacity to serve disaster-affected families throughout Highlands County.
