Description

The Multilingual Leadership Corps will place AmeriCorps members in Maine schools and nonprofit organizations serving populations with English Language Learners, concentrating on the areas of greater Portland, Lewiston/Auburn. This program will increase academic engagement among English Language Learners through School Skills Support, Mentoring, Aspirations (high school and college prep), and Community Engagement programs. Members will be placed at host sites, including Multilingual and Multicultural Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine, Catholic Charities Maine (Refugee and Immigration Services), Avesta Housing, Lewiston Housing Authority, Westbrook School Department, The Telling Room, Lewiston School Department, The Caleb Group, L/A Arts - LEAP, Portland Housing Authority, and Tree Street Youth. The Member will serve as a mentor for at-risk students, having the opportunity to develop relationships and resources within the community which will support these students.
