As a Covid Community Connector, you will assist individuals with disabilities or who are from disadvantaged backgrounds become self-sufficient and combat social isolation experienced by these groups of individuals due to COVID19. The members are serving in partnership with Goodwill Industries – Big Bend, Inc and agree to abide by the mission & vision of the organization.

Service Activities

Plan and coordinate covid support activities for participants - Assist with the Jefferson K-12 and FL Health Department partnership to help us understand the current barriers youth and families are facing to school success - Assist with piloting additions of E-Buddies and Adopt-A-Grandparent elements to encourage socialization and engagement of participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities and nursing home residents - Assist participants with IDD through the ongoing service project, E-Buddies by helping them become more comfortable using technology to communicate with friends, gain computer literacy skills, and help prepare them to socialize online in the future - Assist with establishing ongoing relationships that support the emotional and mental health of nursing home residents experiencing increased isolation by sending online messages, physical letters, and creating mood enhancer playlists to keep spirits high through Adopt-A-Grandparent.

Position Outcomes

As a Covid Community Connector, you will assist individuals with disabilities or who are from disadvantaged backgrounds become self-sufficient and combat social isolation experienced by these groups of individuals due to COVID19. The members are serving in partnership with Goodwill Industries – Big Bend, Inc and agree to abide by the mission & vision of the organization. Members will assist with covid support and resources, partner with Jefferson K-12 to support students in the face of isolation, and will pilot programs to engage individuals with developmental disabilities and who are elderly to encourage socialization and engagement. This is an essential extension of Goodwill Industries’ work with job skills of people with disabilities and will help to extend the value of our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) programs by forging partnerships with local nursing homes. 1. Engage K-12 Students in Jefferson County School System to Improve School Attendance – The Jefferson K-12 and FL Department of Health partnership will allow members to create ongoing engagement with isolated students and parents through social connections, mentoring, and trainings 2. Engagement of individuals with Developmental Disabilities – Members will use the model established by the national program “E-Buddies” to develop ongoing online one-to-one mentoring between people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), offering social interactions while improving the quality of life and level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. 3. Combat Social Isolation of Elderly Individuals in Nursing Homes – Members will use the national model of “Adopt-A-Grandparent" to establish ongoing relationships that support the emotional and mental health of nursing home residents experiencing increased isolation.
