17th Street is a residential program that connects vulnerable NYC youth and their families to resources that strengthen them. We have GSVs in two different programs, Marian Hall and Euphrasian Residence.
There are two GSVs at 17th Street whose role as Youth Development Counselors includes assisting the girls in their own personal development, healing, and growth. GSVs at 17th street are responsible for supervising field trips, group activities, and outings; escorting girls to various appointments and errands; organizing “housekeeping” responsibilities in the home such as chores and room cleaning; and assisting in conflict mediation and therapeutic crisis intervention techniques when necessary. Volunteers also organize and facilitate weekly and monthly workshops that seek to educate youth on topics relevant to their experiences and connect them to people, resources, and opportunities in their communities. The GSVs are invited to continually build and strengthen relationships with all youth in order to create a stable living environment and promote healing, growth, and change.
