Description

The Graduate Support Fellow is a partnership between Life Together and Esperanza Academy. During their two-year commitment with Life Together, fellows work for social justice, grow as leaders, and live in community with other fellows. In addition to teaching, fellows participate in regular leadership training and spiritual reflection.

Fellows receive housing, health insurance, a modest living stipend, and are eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award (to pay student loans or put toward future graduate school tuition). Fellows also receive extensive leadership training.

About the Position:
The Social Justice Teaching Fellowship is a partnership between Life Together and Esperanza. During their year with Life Together, fellows work for social justice, grow as leaders, and live in community with other fellows. In addition to teaching, fellows participate in regular leadership training and spiritual reflection.

Fellows will serve from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020, with a possible contract extension option for a second year.

The fellow will teach literacy, math and/or science and technology classes, coach in the athletic program, serve as an advisor to students, and perform other responsibilities related to teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate belief in the mission and philosophy of both Life Together and Esperanza Academy. The teaching fellow will be a person of high moral character with a generous sense of humor, determination and fortitude. The teaching fellow shall have the ability to work independently and cooperatively and be committed to goal-oriented leadership. Organizational, computer, written, and oral communication skills must be exemplary.

A bachelor's degree is required
Interest in teaching math and/or science and technology strongly preferred
Teaching experience and work with urban youth is preferred, but not required
Prior leadership experience is preferred
A valid driver's license and car is preferred

$580 - $650 monthly
