I have always wanted to strive towards a career that was fulfilling, and I have always wanted ensure that the work I do has a positive impact on the world. I have pursued that goal in my schooling by taking coursework heavily concentrated in multicultural psychology and sociology, with a tighter focus on community organization and urban sociology during the end of my education. Through every course I took, I began to understand more and more how influential the health of the community is in shaping the outcome of individual lives. Community resources are fundamental in establishing a pathway for upward mobility, and I believe that investing in the community is one of the most effective ways that individuals can make a very large impact on very large issues. I became interested in working for AmeriCorps after learning that the addition of full-time volunteers, such as AmeriCorps members, were cited as one of the most beneficial ways to increase volunteer capacity in organizations and charities. As I have just graduated and am only beginning my career, I believe that joining AmeriCorps would be a profound step in figuring out how I am best able to improve both my community and communities around the nation. The diversity in available positions would me the opportunity to learn new skills and would encourage me to challenge myself to branch out into new areas. There are a lot of issues that I care deeply about, and sometimes thinking about the scope of them is a little overwhelming but, if I was able to work with AmeriCorps, I know I would be doing my part and supporting others who are doing their part to address those issues the best we can.
