San Luis Valley Great Outdoors is looking for a dynamic college graduate who is passionate about outdoor recreation, trails, and fostering increased health and wellness in communities that have historically lacked access to these resources. The San Luis Valley is a rural region of Southern Colorado that consists of 6 counties with the average elevation above 7,500 feet. In 2013, San Luis Valley Great Outdoors Coalition (SLV GO! Coalition) developed a master plan to partner with local agencies, organizations, and municipalities to make trails and outdoor recreation accessible and stimulate investment and job creation in the San Luis Valley. SLV GO! creates healthy lifestyles, builds economic vitality, and provides exciting outdoor recreation resources that make our communities proud and more equitable. With this master plan, the SLV GO! Coalition offers the Valley’s counties and communities a set of tools and strategies for enhancing the quality of life for residents Through outdoor recreation, which has proven to have a positive effect on factors contributing to poverty such as physical and mental health, and social engagement/youth development. The member will serve along the SLV community, attend meetings, visit rural communities and see their plans come to life. The VISTA will develop information into grants and promote partner projects via a variety of media to assist communities and prompt economic development in the SLV. As the VISTA, you will leave your service year with experience in community development, public outreach, grant writing, and marketing. The SLV is a historically under-resourced area, your service will impact poverty through building the funding capacity of SLV GO, an organization dedicated to creating more equitable, healthy lifestyles for historically underserved communities.
Service Activities
The Development Coordinator VISTA will conduct research and analysis to improve grant writing, donor database management, and individual giving in order to expand programming, impact, and reach to underserved communities. The Development Coordinator VISTA will collaborate with the Executive Director and partners to craft grants and participate in other fundraising efforts to increase financial capacity and sustainability of SLV GO! and partner organizations. The Development Coordinator VISTA will create and develop marketing plans for SLV GO! and promote partner organizations via SLV GO! communication outlets. The staff and Executive Director will support the VISTA member to prepare them to become a valuable team member and enhance their opportunities for professional development and future employment.
