In Partnership with the Confluence Environmental Center, the Community Science Coordinator will engage low-income and/or diverse populations in community science activities as part of Clean Water Services’ (District). This position will build on the success of previous AmeriCorps members. Specifically, the member will coordinate volunteer based wildlife monitoring activities, which are part of the District’s biodiversity monitoring program. Community science is designed to educate community members about watershed health, engage them in stewardship of local stream and wetland restoration projects and monitor ecological change from enhancement activities. Technician responsibilities for Community Science program will include: Evaluating and prioritizing potential project sites (10%); establishing protocols for monitoring wildlife species (15%); building partnerships and conducting outreach to low-income communities and diversify volunteer core (20%); and leading training and volunteer activities such as amphibian egg mass and native turtle surveys (35%).
The Member will participate in Confluence led professional development activities: Professional Development Series, completing a Change Agent Project, monthly team meetings, National Service events and other self-directed development opportunities (20%).
