Description

This is an Appalachia CARES AmeriCorps placement with Knoxville Habitat for Humanity on the construction crew. This member will have a significant role in maintaining an energetic, enthusiastic, engaged, and safe work site. AmeriCorps responsibilities will include engaging a minimum assigned number of volunteers and community groups in housing services projects, including educational and/or hands-on components. On-site daily responsibilities will include managing the work site, volunteers, and supplies. Through this position, the member will learn the roles and responsibilities of each crew leader, with the goal of exiting the position with well-rounded leadership skills, as well as the tactile skills of construction. Member will serve a minimum of 1,700 hours (40 hr/wk for one year) and will receive a living allowance while in service of $13,732. At the successful completion of the term, the member will be eligible for a $5,920 education award to be used for student loans or higher education. Position will include necessary training on supply management, safety, first aid, etc., but prior experience in construction is a plus. Five positions available. Applicants are required to undergo a three-part criminal history check (National Sex Offender Public Registry, TBI, FBI). Drug test may be required for positions involving site vehicles. Valid Driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, high school diploma and proof of auto insurance or reliable transportation is required. If not born in the United States, documentation of US born abroad OR a permanent resident alien card is required. Name must match on ALL personal documents, including birth certificate, or proof of legal name change is required.
