Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) AmeriCorps members commit to direct Service, intentional Community, and Spirituality/reflection in Appalachian Kentucky. Home Repair Crew Members serve in teams of 2-3 and assist the employee or volunteer crew leader in home repairs and new construction for low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

Service Activities

• Under the guidance of the Lead Person, performs construction activities and leads the activities of the housing volunteers and homeowners to perform home repairs/new construction on houses/property owned by low-income persons to improve living conditions of the occupants.

• Responsible for the care and accountability of all equipment and tools.

• Required to have/develop carpentry skills/leadership skills in order to lead work crews in repair and construction or perform repair/construction work in the absence of a group.

• Follow all safety rules and encourage others to do so.

• Serves in other CAP and AmeriCorps programs when doing so does not interfere with the above duties.

• Participates in additional training and enrichment opportunities as assigned.

Substandard housing in rural, low-income counties.

Position Outcomes

Corps members will will increase the safety, accessibility, and livability of housing among low-income home owners.

All food and housing is provided for members who choose to live in community. The stipend ("living allowance") is $115 bi-weekly for members who live in community and $235 bi-weekly for members who live independently.
