AmeriCorps Elderly Services Caseworker

Elderly Services Caseworkers help seniors without other sources of support access the services, medical care, and human connection that would otherwise be absent.

Service Activities

--Performs home visitations and transports for participants; easing the effects of isolation and allowing homebound elderly persons to
remain at home for longer periods of time.
--Develops visitation and transport schedule to conduct home visits and assist participants in getting to medical appointments and/or run
errands.
--Serves on a team that plans and prepares program-wide group activities.
--Provides services designed to enhance elderly person’s abilities to function at home in a safe, healthy manner.
--Networks with other community agencies to maintain effective relationships to support referrals and supports for participants.
--Serves in other CAP and AmeriCorps programs when doing so does not interfere with the above duties.
--Participates in additional training and enrichment opportunities as assigned.

Community Need Addressed

Corps members provide access to socialization, healthcare, and other services to help seniors in under-resourced communities remain in their homes longer.

Position Outcomes

Corps members will increase the socialization and access to healthcare and other critical services for home-bound senior citizens.

In addition to the benefits described above, members also receive access to free mental health counseling. The stipend ("living allowance") is $960 bi-weekly for members.
