The Brockton Public Schools’ mission is to ensure student success by fulfilling the educational, social, and emotional needs of all students in the pursuit of instructional excellence. The district vision is: Instructional Excellence for Every Student Every Day.

  • About Us
The Brockton Public Schools is a large diverse, urban district that provides a comprehensive program of academic, enrichment, athletic and arts programming aimed at preparing students for a successful life. The district is the fourth largest in the state, providing quality educational programs to 16,981 students in pre-kindergarten to grade 12. Its services extend beyond the school day to include before- and after-school academic and enrichment opportunities as well as extra-curricular athletic and artistic programs. The Brockton Public Schools also serves adults with English as a Second Language, GED and enrichment courses throughout the year.
  • Our Impact
The Brockton Public Schools serves students who face myriad socio-economic challenges. In the 2017-2018 school year, well over half (55.2%) of Brockton students were Economically Disadvantaged compared to 32% of their peers statewide. Economically Disadvantaged students are defined by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as those in families that participate in state administered financial assistance programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps), Transitional Assistance for Families with Dependent Children (cash assistance), the Department of Children and Families Foster Care program, and/or MassHealth (Medicaid).

The Brockton Public Schools is a “school-wide” Title I district based on U.S. Census poverty data, serving predominantly low-income students. The district participates in the USDA Community Eligibility Program which allows schools and districts with high concentrations of low income students to provide “universal” free meals (breakfast and lunch) to all students under the school nutrition program.

A reflection of the growing immigrant population in the city of Brockton, in the 2017-18 school year, 80.9% of the district’s student body was non-White (compared to 39.9% statewide); including 58.2% African American, 15.4% Hispanic, 2.1% Asian, 0.4% Native American, 0.2% Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and 4.6% multi-race. Brockton students’ whose first language was not English was 40.5%, nearly twice the statewide average of 20.9%. More than 50 foreign languages are spoken by Brockton students. Predominant languages are Cape Verdean Creole, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.
