  • About Us
Every day, more than 5,000 youth come through our doors to meet positive role models, receive academic support and participate in life-changing programming. Every kid deserves a bright future, which is why there is a place at the Clubs for every kid.

With a 16 to 1 kid to adult ratio, members stay engaged in supervised activities, whether they are in the gym or the art room. They also receive a free evening meal and snacks – because no kid should go to bed hungry. In addition, Clubs partner with other local nonprofit organizations to provide members and families with access to important resources.

Boys & Girls Clubs provides academic support including tutoring and educational programming, which gives members unique learning opportunities and a chance to explore new interests.

Many of our Clubs are located within Milwaukee schools, and through a growing partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools, members have easy access to academic facilities and direct collaboration with educators. We help support youth every step of the way with homework help, job training and college application assistance.
  • Our Impact
    CORE AREAS OF PROGRAMMING

    EDUCATION
Through a collaborative partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools, Boys & Girls Clubs aims to help improve the city’s high school graduation rate. Within the safety of the Clubs and surrounded by positive role models, members receive academic support that both complements and builds upon school day curriculum. From early childhood literacy instruction to college access and success programs, there are education programs suited for every member.

    SPORTS & RECREATION
Boys & Girls Clubs sports programs allow youth to participate in organized leagues under the direction of professional coaches at little to no cost. Not only is it great for team-building, sports programming is often the first Club experience for many kids who go on to enroll in educational, arts and careers programming as well.

    HEALTH & WELLNESS
Boys & Girls Clubs’ Health & Wellness programs encourage youth to develop healthy habits as well as learn how to make positive choices and take personal responsibility for their actions. Our initiatives promote more than just physical well-being – they also focus on emotional well-being, including friendships, romantic attachments, family relationships, school and career success and mental health

    THE ARTS
Boys & Girls Clubs provides all members at each of our 44 locations the opportunity to participate in quality art programs led by trained artists and staff members. We believe it is critical that members are exposed to the vibrant arts community within their own city and understand they can have a real future in the arts – as artists, performers or patrons.

    CHARACTER & LEADERSHIP
Since the very beginning, Character and Leadership programming has been a primary focus. Through these programs, members are encouraged to take personal responsibility for their actions and are given leadership roles within their Club. They are also introduced to community service – a critical element of this programming.

    CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Boys & Girls Clubs Career Development programs help Milwaukee youth develop the skills they need to succeed in the workforce. Through Club programs, members are introduced to a variety of work environments and guest speakers, worksite tours and hands-on experience, as well as career and financial planning assistance.

Camp Whitcomb-Mason

Since 1911, thousands of young people have come to Camp Whitcomb/Mason for outdoor adventures, comradeship and the chance to learn in a fun and safe environment. A visit to Camp can be life-changing as our campers learn to become more independent and self-reliant. They embrace new challenges and forge new relationships with other youth and adults. Fears are faced and conquered at this unique year-round camp and conference center. While at Camp, participants experience a wide variety of outdoor and cooperative activities such as canoeing, swimming, star-gazing, nature hikes and activities, arts & crafts, a nutrition challenge and high ropes course and much more. Our campers get the chance to make new friends, discover an appreciation for nature and develop independence in a serene setting: ADVENTURE BASED LEARNING creates opportunities for campers to learn how to push themselves and take risks in a positive, encouraging way. The Challenge Course’s exercises promote leadership, team-building and problem-solving. THE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION curriculum promotes increased understanding of the natural world. Members learn animal and plant life, aquatics, outdoor survival and water conservation and sustainability skills. THE NATURE CENTER lets campers and visitors learn about and get an up-close look at animals that live in the wild

SPARK EARLY LITERACY PROGRAM

Offered at 11 MPS school sites, SPARK Early Literacy Program helps boost the literacy skills of more than 750 K4 through 3rd grade students annually. A recent evaluation of SPARK through an Investing in Innovations Grant showed a statistically significant and sizeable impact on its participants. The program operates during the school day in collaboration with the schools and classroom teachers. For K4 participants, SPARK tutors will come to the classrooms at specific times during the school day. At the K5 through 3rd grade levels, one-on-one tutoring sessions and individual lessons are developed for each student. The program also includes family engagement so parents and guardians have the tools they need to help their children be successful. SPARK hosts two all-SPARK events per year and monthly family events at each site to celebrate student achievement.
