AmeriCorps Member

Implements the day-to-day delivery of the AmeriCorps program following all requirements.

Ensures the confidentiality of the students, school employees, and AmeriCorps members.

Recruits school volunteers to get involved with program outreach activities.

Provide peer mentoring to Members.

Serve as the main point of contact for the
school liaison.

Service Activities

Implements the day-to-day delivery of the AmeriCorps Check & Connect program following all requirements.
Uses Check & Connect App to document, monitor, and report on student progress.

Community Need Addressed

Members encourage students to become more engaged in school by meeting for 15-20 minutes once a week to provide support with attendance, behavior, and course performance.

Members will work with work with teachers, school staff, and reading coaches to support students with reading deficiencies, coordinate literacy lessons during the school day, and assign literacy enrichment activities.

Position Outcomes

Through peer mentoring, members will provide the necessary supports to help students become and stay engaged at school and with learning.

The desired outcomes:
- Decrease in risk factors and increase protective factors for student.
- Increase in academic, behavioral, cognitive, and affective student engagement.
- On time school completion with a high school diploma.
- Increase in literacy testing scores.

Education Benefits

GED/High School Diploma

Above the age of 17. Be a U.S. citizen or have a legal permanent residence card. Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program. Agree and pass a criminal background check. CPR Certified (or willing to become certified with 90 days of hire).
