AmeriCorps Members at the Arc of Palm Beach County serves as a mentor for adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities. Inclusion member will be trained in the Project Discovery curriculum as well as knowledge in identity protection, knowledge in accessing healthcare, participating in health management, healthy life style choices, nutrition, and preventative techniques for relevant medical conditions, fitness, inclusive community activities and increased social ties, develop job readiness; employment soft skills, explore job opportunities and provide vocational training. Based on the specific individual plan of the Arc participant, Inclusion members will administer the pre and post-test to 9 participants based on activities of daily living or employment. Members will document the scores on an excel database by members and monitored by the program manager. Members will receive an orientation to include required member trainings: Disability Awareness & Etiquette, Diversity, Citizenship. Member are required to complete First Aid/CPR training, HIPAA, First Aid & Disaster Preparedness training. Orientation will also cover prohibited activities in detail (listed below), review of contracts, and other pertinent agency and site information.
