We train AmeriCorps Members to serve in nonprofits and public agencies to offer peer support and project management to help expand capacity and make recovery possible for more Americans.
Service Activities
- Support individuals in recovery from substance use disorder with personalized recovery plans.
- Assist clients in navigating social services resources, programs, and benefit systems.
- Foster strong relationships with clients to help build their confidence and skills, while encouraging them to have agency over their own recovery.
- Gain valuable professional experience while embedded in a local recovery organization.
- Participate in training and professional development throughout the year, including the Peer Recovery Support training.
- Complete the requirements for Peer Recovery Support Specialist certification.
- Share your experience with the wider community as a Recovery Corps ambassador.
Community Need Addressed
Many people do not have enough support to live a healthy life in recovery from substance use disorders. Take action by offering your time and talent as a Recovery Navigator. As someone who knows what it’s like to build a healthy life in recovery, you can help others do the same through mentoring, peer support and resource navigation.
Position Outcomes
We train people with a year or more of uninterrupted recovery to offer mentoring, peer support and resource navigation as Recovery Navigators. Our navigators provide one-on-one support to help people in their recovery journey. While they serve, they gain valuable experience and complete the requirements for the Peer Support Specialist certification.
