Description

Spend your gap year with Amate House! Develop your leadership skills, gain professional skills, and start your career in social justice with our fellowship program! Amate House offers year-long opportunities to serve Chicago in a variety of social service agencies. Fellows live in intentional community with other fellows, receive housing, health insurance, a small stipend, mentorship, and learn about the 5 Tenets of AH: social justice, community, service, faith, and stewardship.

Martha & Mary Ministry Support Specialist
Main duties and responsibilities
Martha & Mary (M&M) Ministry is Kolbe House’s program which offers accompaniment,
emergency material assistance, and guidance to people living in the community affected by
incarceration. This population includes individuals recently released from incarceration and family
members with a loved one incarcerated or recently released. Although incarceration has impacted
returning citizens directly and family members indirectly, their needs for compassionate relationship
and material support are very similar. Kolbe House has a host of volunteers who staff this ministry
under the leadership of Deacon Pablo Perez. The volunteers are recruited and brought on board by
Volunteer Coordinator, Cristian Garcia. Training is extensive as the situations of those in need can be
complex, the importance of prudence and spiritual care is paramount, and the resources to offer are
extensive. The volunteer staff work from a large shared work space called the Disciples Room.
As the M&M Support Specialist, the fellow will foster optimal care to ministry clients and
support for volunteers by serving as a continuous resource for the volunteers who each serve a day
or two each week. To accomplish this, the fellow will have his/her own workspace in the Disciples
Room. Responsibilities will include:
● Assuring that volunteers follow through on inquiries and commitments made to ministry clients
in preceding days
● Guiding the volunteers as they implement their training. Areas which often need supervision
and reinforcement include fielding initial inquiries effectively, obtaining information needed for
ministry decisions, accompanying individuals effectively and personally through pastoral
conversation, and utilizing Salesforce as our database for interactions with Kolbe House.
● Promulgating and reinforcing updates in policies and ministry practices from ministry leader
Deacon Pablo Perez and the staff at Kolbe House.
● Monitoring attendance of volunteers and assistance with scheduling.
● Collaborating with volunteer coordinator Cristian Garcia to identify staffing needs.
