The mission statement of Amarillo ISD is to graduate every student prepared for success beyond high school. Amarillo ISD AmeriCorps Program supports this mission.

  • About Us
AmeriCorps members will serve as tutors at elementary campus sites to provide tutorials in reading interventions for Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade students who are identified as being at-risk in order to improve literacy rates among youth. Each campus site collects and analyzes academic data to determine specific student need. Students are then matched with appropriate interventions. It is at this point that AmeriCorps tutors are utilized. The Amarillo ISD AmeriCorps tutors provide teachers with support in an effort to bring about appropriate gains in literacy skills. AmeriCorps members will provide individual and small group support for the classroom teacher’s reading instruction. AmeriCorps members will also provide tutoring and enrichment activities for students participating in selected Extended School Day Programs. AmeriCorps members will work in the Extended School Day setting and will provide circle time, homework assistance, literacy-based lessons, recreation time, and enrichment activities for students served.
