Community Outreach and Engagement VISTA

The Community Outreach and Engagement VISTA member will be responsible for designing the needs assessment and determining how best to deliver it, collecting and analyzing the data, and developing a resource list to meet identified needs. They will also organize community meetings and encourage attendance by researching and implementing community outreach strategies tailored to the geographic areas we are targeting. The VISTA member will track participation (through sign in sheets for meetings and student attendance of volunteer-led events) for analysis and reporting. They will identify local businesses as resources for families and sponsors of workshops, assist in finding speakers for community meetings, and maintain an updated list of prospective speakers. Similarly, they will create and log activities conducted with partner organizations and maintain a database of those activities, including developing and distributing pre- and post-surveys to partners so we can measure success and increased capacity. Finally, the VISTA member will create a framework for tracking ASAS alumni, establishing procedures with DCPS to continue tracking academic data into high school. To tackle all of these tasks, the VISTA member will be supported by both Starting With Today and our Community Engagement Manager.

Service Activities

-Connect with ASAS DC parent engagement partners, and our Community Outreach Manager to set community engagement goals
-Attend family engagement events and work with schools to design needs assessment
-Conduct needs assessment (via survey/focus groups/other data-gathering techniques) in partnership with parent engagement partners and analyze results of needs assessment
-Develop and distribute pre- and post-surveys for participants in community engagement events to measure success
-Work with ASAS DC program team, school sites, and partner organizations to design a strategy for alumni engagement and conduct alumni outreach
-Determine needs of ASAS alumni and collaborate with ASAS leadership team to plan for alumni engagement to address those needs
-Conduct research on and ongoing outreach to DC-based businesses, community centers, and individuals who could provide resources, host events, or otherwise support ASAS DC’s community engagement efforts

This VISTA position will work with After School All Star DC's parent and community engagement team to expand the scope of our needs assessment and resource sharing efforts.

We aim to increase our community engagement efforts to increase the scale of our resource sharing and alumni network programming.
