AFHA Community Development AmeriCorps will support organizations locally and regionally in the following manner. Each position is different, but most will include members assisting with volunteer management and development, event and project management, asset identification and mapping, networking and partner development, public outreach, online marketing and social media coordination, and other related activities.

Service Activities

Members may be selected to perform the following tasks depending on site placement: volunteer program management, asset identification and mapping, public outreach, marketing and media design, online and social media management, project coordination and support, event support, other related duties specific to each position.

Community Need Addressed

Rural Appalachian communities face needs for community economic development and cultural tourism development. Organizations need help with volunteer management, education and outreach to the community and potential visitors, project and event management, and organizational efficiency. These organizations are often in need of fresh ideas, strong backs, and service members who are able to help the organization integrate with today's technology.

Position Outcomes

As a result of AFHA AmeriCorps projects and support, our sites will benefit from increased volunteer capacity and activity, better understanding of community assets, increased collaborative partnerships among sites and communities, improved programming and successful events and projects, and greater public and visitor awareness of the community and what it has to offer.
