  • About Us
The United Way of Dane County and its partner agencies provide a multitude of services to the Dane County community in the areas of income, education, and health.
  • Our Impact
United Way of Dane County engages our community, mobilizes volunteers and strengthens local nonprofits to achieve measurable results and change lives.

Our efforts are focused on specific goals in the three priority areas of our community’s Agenda for Change:

    EDUCATION:

Students succeed academically and graduate from high school, regardless of race.
Children are cared for and have fun as they become prepared for school.
    INCOME:
More people are on pathways out of poverty.
There is a decrease in family homelessness.
    HEALTH:
People’s health issues are identified and treated early.
Seniors and people with disabilities are able to stay in their homes.
Each of these goals is achieved through the implementation of United Way initiatives and measured through specific community-wide metrics, therefore ensuring that our results are efficient, local, and focused on tackling the underlying causes of problems. Read more about these initiatives by clicking on the Agenda for Change priority areas on the left.

This shared vision is mobilizing the community and creating collaborations that produce results. Together, we are changing Dane County for the better, for all of us.

United Way of Dane County - Achievement Connections Programs

Achievement Connections Math Tutoring

Achievement Connections is an AmeriCorps program that provides five dedicated Math tutoring centers at local high schools focused on providing one-on-one support for students in Algebra 1 and Geometry. AmeriCorps Members at the tutoring centers, supervised by a Tutor Coordinator, work as a team to provide support to students through math tutoring, class observations, communication with teachers, development of foundational math skills, and volunteer management to help serve students. Two AmeriCorps Members - the Community and Campus Volunteer Coordinators - serve the program by recruiting volunteers from the community to serve as math tutors at the high schools. Achievement Connections is an AmeriCorps program led by the United Way of Dane County, the Madison Metropolitan School District, the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District, and the Morgridge Center for Public Service at UW Madison. Serving with Achievement Connections, you will learn collaboration and leadership skills to boost your career, and make lasting friendships while moving your community forward. AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at 21,600 unique sites across the country including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups. AmeriCorps places thousands of adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
